The world's fastest sport on skates will start its 19th season with a premiere – a race in Yokohama, Japan in December inside a huge seaside park. The fearless skaters who race down obstacle-filled ice tracks of up to 600 meters in length four-at-a-time at speeds of up to 80 km/h will also return to frozen northern Finland for a race in Jyväskylä for the fourth straight season. The third Red Bull Crashed Ice Race will take place in Boston, Massachusetts in the United States at Fenway Park.
Red Bull Crashed Ice races are the centerpiece of the ATSX Ice Cross Downhill World Championship, with the winner collecting 1,000 championship points ("ATSX 1000"). Additionally, the season calendar will consist of ATSX500 and ATSX250 races, worth 500 and 250 championship points respectively, throughout North America and Europe.
Canada's Scott Croxall, who won 2,745 points last season, will be looking to defend his hard-fought Ice Cross Downhill World Championship this season with former champions Cameron Naasz (USA), who was second last season overall with 2,600 points, Marco Dallago (AUT), Derek Wedge (SUI) and Kyle Croxall (CAN) breathing down his neck for the prestigious title. In the women's division, current World Champion, America's Amanda Trunzo, will have her work cut out for her as two-time former champion Jacqueline Legere (CAN) will be eager to reclaim her throne.
The Juniors World Championship will be back for a third season. It is a feeder competition that helps younger racers gain invaluable experience racing down the tracks under the spotlight and pressure of performing in a true World Championship competition.
More than 1,000 athletes from 22 countries and five continents around the world take part in races that have become so popular that they regularly draw large crowds into city centers.
