Junko Yamamoto began playing ice hockey at the age of 7, a sport which she excelled at and progressed to play in the Japan Women's Ice Hockey League. It was on TV that she first saw Red Bull Crashed Ice and her immediate interest in the sport led her to try out in the 2010 Japan qualifier, which she went on to finish in 1st place. Her first race came in Quebec that year, and her best performance came in Munich 2016 when she was ninth. When Junko isn't competing she works at a local TV station as an ice hockey reporter, director and editor.
