Born and raised in Pardubice, Michael Urban heard about ice cross downhill completely randomly when the sport appeared for the first time in the Czech Republic in 2005. The fearless skater was able to qualify and was on the starting list of the Red Bull Crashed Ice event in the Czech Republic in 2006. Craving adrenaline, courage and danger, Michael got into ice cross downhill following many years competing in speed skating. Urban finished third in the Czech Olympic speed skating team under-15s. Competing in ice cross downhill brings a higher level of stress. "The most stressful time is just before the start. Those five seconds before the start gates open are endless. Then it fades and you go. When you see the mass of fans along the track, the adrenaline kicks in immediately. In our sport, adrenaline trumps stress."
